This is the second week where I start to write an article, I do research and then I stop halfway. I didn’t want to do like last week and not post. These personal posts are at the same time easier and harder to post. Easier because there is no research involved, harder because they are much more personal. But I’m starting to have the same symptoms I had last year before my burnout and I’m trying very hard no to go down that spiral again.
This week is mental health awareness week in Canada, and I was planning on writing a post about what mental health is, what it isn’t, and why it is difficult to talk about. There are stigmas, misinformation, and myths about it that make not having “normal” mental health more difficult. With weeks like this that aim to de-mystify, to teach, and to have a conversation about a topic that is near and dear to my heart can only be beneficial. It is interesting as a topic, but the way I feel right now, it’s hard to find the motivation and I feel sad that I can’t give the time and energy that I would need to cover topics like this.
I found an interesting quote this month that I put in my journal, and it goes “Be patient with yourself. Nothing in nature blooms all year.” By unknown (If you know please leave the source in the comments below, I couldn’t find it). So, I’m going to be spacing out my articles. I’m going to be trying out new topics and keep them more on the creative side because taking breaks does help. I have a lot more topics to cover and that I will cover, but right now I need to be patient with myself, and I hope you can be patient with me too. It is a fallow period of the year and I have to give myself time to re-energize in order to bloom again. At least, that is my interpretation of the quote.
My mental health, my anxiety and my stress levels are making everything difficult for now. But that is ok. The cycle will go around again, and I will get better. It is the good thing about having had my burnout last year. I now know the signs and can hopefully prevent a recurrence this year. Mental health is important and something that I find we don’t talk about enough. Fear of being judged, of being branded crazy or being rejected has as much impact on the person that requires help than the ones who are helping and the ones near both.
Mental health and wellbeing are slowly making their way into the everyday vocabulary, however. There is hope that the stigma will fade, that it will be easier to talk about this difficult topic and that people can learn to understand and take care of all their “selves” and not just the physical.
I may post sporadically for the next month or not at all, but I know I’m going to bloom again. This is temporary. No matter where you are in the cycle you are not alone, and we can get through this.
