On the journey – Part 2

I started this blog three months ago. It is already my 15th post. Taking stock occasionally is a good practice to get into. Have I succeeded? Not yet. Not my ultimate goal of making a living with writing at least. However, I am consistent and have been posting once a week for the last 15 weeks. That is a win for me.

Another win is the fact that by researching these articles I’m understanding a lot more about the problems I have, and I have tips and tricks to try out and hopefully improve them. The trick is to get myself doing the exercises and that takes a lot of willpower. It is so much easier to keep at the status quo. However, if I want things to change and not stay stuck with how things are now, I need to get myself acting and hopefully the motivation to keep going will come after (another thing I’ve learned these past months). I just need to start small as long as I start.

I’m also trying to get affiliate partners so that I can have an income from this blog as well, but not much luck. Maybe I’m too new or not targeting the right companies. If you don’t know what affiliate marketing is, it is recommending services, products and courses and providing links so that my reader’s can buy. I get a percentage of every sale made through my links. There is no extra cost to the reader, so it is a win-win-win. I would only recommend useful products or products I love. I prefer that to ad pop-ups that distract from the content I work hard to create. There is no obligation of course and affiliate marketing is for me a useful way to start earning income from this type of project

I’m also finishing up the sixth step in the twelve steps of making a living with my writing, from the class I took at the beginning of this journey (this class can also be useful for creators as well). I wrote a book. Well booklet really at 12,000 words. I’m proud of myself for that and as an anxious creative with low-self esteem that is saying something. It is a workbook for creativity and anxiety. Filled with tips and tricks and exercises for increasing creativity and mitigating anxiety as well as tips and tricks for what to do for procrastination, self-doubt, decision fatigue and how to create habits.

If you are willing to do the work, you will get results. That is my new philosophy and one I learned in the class as well. This is what I will tell myself to start acting on these tips and tricks and help improve myself. My booklet will be available for free with a subscription to my free e-mail list. If you are already subscribed (and thank you for that), I will be sending copies in the next few days, so no action is needed. Hopefully, it will be useful to my readers.

I also hope it will help in achieving the next step. I’m not looking forward to it as it will be harder for me given my social anxiety. It’s to increase my e-mail subscription list to 100. I have 17 right now. I’m not planning to give myself a deadline because I only have partial control over the outcome this time. With my accountability partner, I will be doing a weekly update about what I have done and tried and what the results are.

If you can find one, an accountability partner is there to help and motivate you. They can help keep things in perspective especially when doubt and fear are setting in and the anxiety doesn’t let you see what your next step should be.  I’m very lucky to have found one that I trust completely and that really helps.

Next week I’m hesitating between starting another series on self-doubt and low self-esteem, or since I finished a mental health focused series on stress, perhaps I can do one on creativity or problem solving? I’m eventually going to do both, but I’ll leave it up to you. Which one would you like to read next? Please leave a comment below.

My journey will continue, and I will celebrate the wins and learn from my mistakes. If I move forward, learn what I need to, I don’t think I can fail.

Thank you for reading.
